Dear Western Illinois NAVHDA Members and Friends,
Yeehaa! Boy am I on top of things this month! Don't get used to it . . . I'm just trying to get all caught up before
puppies take all my time.
I have a couple reminders for you and then I'll get down to other business:
1. 2007 Dues are Due: You have until January 31st the pay your dues and get the discounted rate of $25.00.
After the 31st, dues go up to $30.00.
2. The 2007 Fun Hunt is fast approaching: GET THOSE ENTRIES IN THE MAIL!
Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 8:00 AM. I have attached a flyer for you to print out. Please share it with your
friends. The fun hunt has always been a good time and this year will be no exception. Two notable changes have
been made.
Entries MUST be pre-paid by February 3rd so the birds may be reserved.
A rain date has been set for Saturday, April 14th.
The location will be at Houtekier’s For The Birds, 11625 – 204th Street W.,

3. The annual meeting was held at Mike Murphy's residence on January 27th. Our sincere appreciation goes to
Mike and his family for hosting us. We all had a great time visiting and chowing down on the goodies. Thanks, Mike!
Business: Our current Web Master is not able to continue to host our web site at no charge. Her server is making
changes that will cost her money and she would need to pass that on to us. She would be happy to do that and the
cost through Yahoo would be $11.98 per month. Two additional options were discussed.
Bobbi Benson could host it through Homestead for $8.33 a month or Mark Gehrke could host it through Yahoo for
$7.77 per month. After discussion, it was decided to appoint Mark Gehrke as WebMaster with Bobbi to assist him
and put the site on Yahoo. Mark has already begun working on the new site. A note of appreciation has been sent
to Dawn for her support and hard work.
We discussed Chapter equipment and the following is a rough inventory:
12 Duck Decoys, Cloth Blind, 20 Heeling Stakes, 2 Single Shot Shotguns, 1 Old Remote Launcher, 1
New Remote Launcher, 10x10 Tent, 3 Banners, Dummy Launcher, Retrieve Dummies & Bag, 2 Bird Bags, 2 Bird
Boxes, 1 5x8 Trailer.
The Trailer was purchased a few years ago and needs skinned out. Brian Lake offered to pick the trailer up when
the weather breaks and take care of getting the work completed. Once that is finished, all chapter equipment can be
placed in it.
Members discussed the option of loaning chapter equipment to members for training between training days. No final
decision was made on how to handle this option.
Members would like to add a couple more remote traps, but no action was taken at this time.
Since our treasurer, Jan Huebbe, and her husband Terry moved to Minnesota, Rich Runge has been handling the
treasurer duties locally. Rich paid our Chapter Insurance and reported we currently have a balance of $1497.51 in
the checking account. This does not include the additional amount of $300.00 dues brought to and collected at the
meeting.

Spring Test: It was discussed and determined there was enough interest among the members present and those
with puppies under 16 months of age to warrant holding a one (1) day, Natural Ability Test on Saturday, May 19th.
Kandi Kwirant will be the Test Secretary and Rich Runge will help her obtaining judges. We still need to finalize a
location. We discussed either Crooked Creek in Washington, IA or the Henke Residence, Wapello, IA. The price will
be $95.00 per entry.
Possible Training Clinic: We discussed holding a two day training clinic similar to what we did in 2005 when we had
John Crozier instruct us. Bobbi Benson suggested contacting Ed Erickson from Minnesota. Ed does a lot of work
with electronic collars so could teach us the proper use of these collars. I will check available dates and prices and
get back to the membership. We would be looking at June, July or August.
How many members would be interested?
That is the news for now. PLEASE send us feedback! We want to make this chapter meet the needs of our
members and we cannot do that it you don't tell us what you need.
