Dear Western Illinois NAVHDA Members and Friends,

It has been a busy and sometimes frustrating time in the Duck Swamp.  I'm sorry for the late newsletter.  We are
having a terrible time with our internet service.  It seems to be out more than working of late.

The big weekend is coming and Jeff and I are busy getting things ready.  We have also been busy training and
working on the food plots.  Some of you won't recognize the grounds when you see them.

COLLAR CLINIC - JULY 14-15, 2007 - Saturday and Sunday -
Henke Residence, 10447 - 55th Street, Wapello, Iowa.
Starting time:  08:00 AM both days:  The response to the collar clinic has been very good.  I believe it is full, but
if we have someone interested at the last minute, don't hesitate to let us know.  I'm sure we can work something
out.  Here is the plan:  We will meet here (Henke Residence) at 08:00 AM both days.  Bring your dog(s), E-collar
(if you have one), supplies for your dog, and a chair.

We have Homing Pigeons, Kill Pigeons, (Must be kept separate), and ducks available for training.

Saturdays lunch will be catered by Scott's Outdoors of Muscatine.  It will be a two piece fried chicken box lunch
with two sides and a drink for $6.00.  We will take lunch orders first thing in the morning.

Saturday evening we will have a NO HOST dinner at The Duck Blind in Oakville.  We plan to be there between
5:30 and 6:00 PM.  The 'Special' on Saturday night is Prime Rib.  Family members are welcome at all times
(including lunches).  We just need to know how many people to make reservations or order for.

Sunday lunch will be Shredded Pork Loin sandwiches, with Potato Salad, Baked Beans, chips and a drink for
$6.00.  This is not individual orders, so we will have enough food to feed 25 people.

NO alcohol will be allowed until clinic activities are complete.  B.Y.O.B.

Anyone with a camper or tent is welcome to set up here and spend the night.  Local accommodations are
available at the Roy-El Motel, 405 Highway 61 S., Wapello, 319-523-2111.

FALL TEST OCTOBER 20-21, 2007, HENKE RESIDENCE:
The question was presented and enough interest shown to pursue getting judges.  Rich Runge has been
working hard and has the judges lined up.  Several of the judges were willing to judge one day and run a dog on
the opposite day.  The good part of that is the test is already filling.

BEFORE THE TEST IS POSTED TO THE PUBLIC, WE NEED TO KNOW WHO THE CHAPTER MEMBERS ARE
THAT ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING DOGS AND IF IT WILL BE NA, UPT, OR UT?

Please let us know by August 1st if you want to run a dog in this test!  Respond to Jeff Henke, 563-299-4435,
entenmoor@louisacomm.net or Bobbi Benson, 309-337-7708, spinoni@louisacomm.net.

Kandi Kwirant has agreed to be the test secretary and will receive all test entries as soon as we set the prices.  I
should have the additional information available after August 1st.

AUGUST TRAINING DAY:
August 11th training meet at BP station in Colona, IL.  Training at Lost Grove public hunting area east of
Eldridge Ia.  All people need an Iowa hunting license, water is great as well as the fields.

JUNE TRAINING DAY:
The June training day was very well attended and a great deal of training was accomplished.  It is always nice to
have a good turn out.

PICNIC TABLE:
In May the members voted to have a picnic table built for us.  The table is here and it is terrific.  It is 10' long and
very solid.  Thank you to the members for providing the material, Mike Kennedy for his labor and Rich Runge
for delivering it to us.  I'm sure it will see many years of use.  We sincerely appreciate it.

WELCOME NEW MEMBER:
Larry Joerger, 719 Watson Drive, Genoa, IL  60135

We are looking forward to many training days with Larry and Clauss!

MEMBER WAG BRAGS:
Congratulations to Rich Runge the weekend of June 9-10 was a good weekend for the Jager-haus kennel, on
Saturday a breed show for the DK's was held, in the young males I ended up the SG2 male Beau, and with Josh
Carver handling Baron a SG5,  Murphy was right behind Josh with his male Buck. On the Young Female side
Butch Carver took the SG2 position with Becka and Brian Spindel SG with Bree.

On the  same afternoon Brian ran Bree to a prize 3 derby in her junior year, she ran a year a head of when she
needed to. Sunday brought another hot day and Beau brought his best game earning a Prize 1 with a 4H in
search and the judges agreed that he was the best dog that they saw run all weekend, out of 18 dogs, I was
busting at the seems, we also was marked loud on fur, for future blood tracking possibilities, all in all not a bad
weekend, this was a breeding I've  been trying to get done for the past 5 years, looks like all the time and
patience paid off.  RR    Congratulations, Rich, it is great when a plan comes together and the rewards worked
for are received.  We are all proud of your accomplishments.

Congratulations to Kandi Kwirant and Terracina for earning two more points toward Terracina's AKC
Championship at the Hawkeye Kennel Club Show in Iowa City on June 23-24, 2007.  Terracina took Best of
Opposite Sex both days of the show.

Congratulations to Randy Meester on the birth of 9 French Brittany puppies in May.  Check out his website:
http://www.corncountrybretons.com  There were 4 boys and 5 girls 3 b/w 1 tri color and 5 o/w dogs.

I have to brag about my boys too!  JJ earned the second leg on his Rally Novice Obedience title on Friday, June
22, 2007 at the Hawkeye Kennel Club Show and being his normal charming self (sitting in my chair), caught the
eye of the photographer for the Cedar Rapids Gazette  and ended up with his picture in the paper.  I haven't
seen it yet but I hope to soon.  Why do they always do the best things when you don't have your camera.  JJ's
brother, Zeke, showed in conformation and took Best of Breed on Saturday earning two points toward is AKC
Championship and Best of Winners on Sunday to earn 1 more point.  It's a start!

A new addition joined the Duck Swamp Gang.  Her name is Odessa, 'Ode' for short.  She is a Spinone Italiano,
born on March 22, 2007 in Pisa, Italy.  She arrived here on June 19, 2007 and has quickly become the little
darling of the Duck Swamp.

SOMETHING WE DON'T WANT TO NEED / BUT VERY GOOD TO KNOW - DE-SKUNK RECIPE:
* One quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide

* One-fourth cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)

* One teaspoon liquid soap

Wet the animal,  apply the mixture and work it through the animal's hair. Leave the solution on three to
four minutes, and finish with a tap water rinse.

Caution: Make up only as much of the de-skunking remedy as you can use at one time. It is unsafe to
bottle and store this chemical combination.

Thanks to Todd McLester for sending the receipe.

That's all I have for now.  I hope I have not forgotten anything.  If I did, please let me know so I can include it in
the next newsletter.  Your contributions to the newsletter are always sought and appreciated.
